The Space Studio won the interior design scope of works for this 67 bed Extra Care scheme against 2 other practices following a presentation and site visit to the recently completed Beacon Centre. Our scope of work covered communal spaces to include restaurant, coffee bar, hair salon, corridors, lounges and the show apartment. The concept is to give a hotel-like, quality feel.

We were successful in winning this extra care scheme in Southam for Orbit Group, working with Walker Troup Architects. The scope of work was similar to previous extra care schemes we have completed and involved the design of the interior communal spaces and two show apartments. We were asked to give a ‘hotel feel’ to avoid it looking institutional, so we took this concept further than we had done before to create a sleek 5* hotel feel, with potential for this to become a standard model that can be rolled our across the Orbit extra care brand.

The Beacon Centre is a new-build, bespoke development for residents over 55 with visual impairments. We were commissioned at an early stage to develop the critical interior design of the centre to ensure that the users could use the centre to its full potential. The commission was won at a competitive interview over two other practices.

The Space Studio were commissioned to develop an interior scheme for a specially reconfigured bungalow for young adults with varying levels of learning disabilities. The scheme comprises of 1 permanent residents suite and 3 further en-suite bedrooms with private lounges for respite care. There is a large communal dining room which leads into a veranda which overlooks the re landscaped garden

This project was to extend the existing Lodge Road Surgery in the West Midlands to give patients a spacious waiting area with natural light; attractive entrance with disabled access as well as opening up the dark artificially lit internal corridors which were previously the only routes of circulation for staff and patients.

Our strong working relationship with Trent and Dove gave us the opportunity to work on St John’s Church Land, another extra care scheme based in Burton Upon Trent. Providing sheltered housing for 28 units, this new build is surrounded by existing residential areas, which have been at the forefront of all aspects of the design.

Wrekin Community Clinic is an NHS funded clinic in Telford. We were commissioned to develop the interior design of this clinic to create a welcoming, "Non Institutional" environment. The colour palette was carefully put together to provoke a calming healthy feel, whilst a clever use of "care friendly" fabrics create a more hotel like feel.
